Be Sure to Check Your Treat Bag!

31 Oct

So, I’m looking through my 2-year-old daughter’s treat bag of super sugary Halloween fun, and low and behold, what do I find? Two of the Colombina lollipops recalled last week. Yikes! And thus I issue this friendly reminder to check your child’s treat bag before diving in.

To refresh, MegaPops, by Colombina, is recalling their 14- and 28-ounce size bags of watermelon, cherry, orange and grape flavored pops. UPC Code numbers: 0 14272 10873 9 or 0 14272 10862 3. Look for the lot numbers: 1240695, 1209708, or 1209796. Metal bits were found in some of the Pops.

Love the Hylands, but for now, just throw it out.

We love these little teething tablets, but it is medicine with potent ingredients. One key ingredient, Belladonna, is great for easing the redness & irritation of those little gums, but it too can have some serious side effects when consumed in great quantity. The FDA has found inconsistencies in the amount of Belladonna added to the teething tablets, and thus, has issued a recall. For now, they say to just throw it out.

Be sure to refer to the list of symptoms listed here & contact your child’s doctor if you have any concerns.

What can we say, quality counts.

Here we are again, hearing about an enormously huge toy recall from Mattel – 10 million today. Just what happened? Well, we’ve read all the press, and find it important to mention that this is a voluntary recall, after a few children were injured in using these products. And, no, they were not all manufactured in China.

However, we at Nico & Zoe Toys have never found ourselves in this position. Why? Because quality counts in the long run. No, our toys are not cheap. Yes, we have a few products manufactured in China. The difference? We research the companies we buy from & we play with the toys we sell. If a product can’t stand up to our standards, or our children’s play, we won’t sell it. It’s these standards that keep us with the small manufacturers who know their toys & trust their work – heck, they are doing the work!

These big companies are so far removed from the source, manufacturing so big, that they lose oversight of the product until a few children are injured by a misplaced peg or weak plastic wheels. It’s sad, really.

Please do scan the list for your item number & if you do find it on the list, be sure to contact Mattel, the owner of Fisher Price for further instructions.
